Got Vocabulary?

I know we're all looking for new resources to help build our students' academic vocabulary. Well, look no further! Today I discovered a new book, The Yo Momma Vocabulary Builder. The book has hundreds of examples of yo momma disses that include sophisticated and articulate vocabulary. Think of MIT students on MTVs show Yo Momma. Each sophisticated and articulate vocabulary word is fully defined and explained after each diss.

Let me give you a few examples of the disses (I'm leaving out the vocabulary word explanations):

"Yo momma's so emaciated, she can hoola hoop in a fruit loop."
"Yo momma's so corpulent, when her beeper goes off, people think she's backing up."
"Yo momma's so voracious, her blood type's Ragu."

So you think this book will be put on the state's approved list?

I just got back from the Most Inspiring Student dinner at the Hilton. It was really nice. Our MIS was Armando. His sister and Dad accompanied him. Sue pinched hit for Kristi. I love Sue, she's so much fun! It was a great night. Armando was so cute. He received a placque, a medal, and a bunch of certificates from local politicians. It was a very special night for Armando and his family.

It's been such a long day. I'm so glad tomorrow is Friday!!!

Craziness

What a crazy day. Lots of naughty boys. Today I don't think I had more than three minutes to rest and catch my breath. I didn't even have time to check out the dancing. I have so much work to do tomorrow. I need to start working on final evals. OMG...not looking forward to doing those. **begins sobbing uncontrollably**

Ballroom Dancing

Ballroom dancing started on Monday. Unfortunately, I was at a meeting so I couldn't attend the first practice. So sad. No meeting today, so I got to check out the dancing! It was so exciting and so joyful that I almost peed my pants...almost. I couldn't stop smiling (I know, hard to believe). It looked like the kids were having fun, except for one (but he started having "fun" once I had a little chat with him). I was so impressed with how much they've learned in only two lessons! The dance teachers are amazing! I can't wait to see how much the kids learn by the end of the year...they are going to be dancing up a storm. It's so great to see a dream actually become reality. I have to thank Clarissa for making all of this happen. She did all the leg work...get it...leg work...ha ha. Anyway, I can't wait to see what the kids learn on Friday. If you're curious, stop by the MPR on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays at 3:15. Make sure you go to the bathroom first.

The Joy of Childhood

Wow...almost two weeks without a post. So sad. Guess I haven't had much to say lately. I guess tonight I do. Sometimes I really miss being a kid. I miss the pure joy of just being a clueless kid. I miss not having to worry about anything except figuring out how to con my mom into buying me candy at the store or coming up with a new way to drive my teachers nuts. The good 'ol days! You're probably wondering why I'm blabbering about this. Well...today at lunch Cyd served the little triangular prism-like popsicle things. As soon as the kids passed the door and saw other kids eating them, they could hardly contain their joy and excitement. It was so cute to see how how happy they were...all because of a little frozen flavored sugar water. The other day a kid almost wet his pants with joy because he got a sticker...a little sticker. Again, it was so cute to see how happy he was. I absolutely LOVE these treasure moments of joy. I LOVE seeing happy kids! I only wish I could be just as happy with frozen flavored sugar water and a sticker. :)
